About Us

Al Ohlsen is a Queensland registered teacher and qualified artist. Working as a teacher, tutor and lecturer, Al has nurtured the learning of a diverse range of people, from young children through to adults, for nearly 20 years.

Al is a practising artist, with skills and experience across a broad range of artforms, including drawing, painting and mixed media, 2 and 3-Dimensional work. Al is currently working in carving wooden puppets and creating kaleidoscopes.

 

Al’s work in the arts and arts education is driven by an understanding that viewing the world through a creative lens, and creating art that explores and communicates this view, has the power to change lives. More about this can be read here.


For almost a decade Al worked with QUT’s School of Early Childhood and Inclusive Education, Faculty of Education, developing the arts educational knowledge and skills of future Early Childhood and Primary teachers. Al has been the recipient of a number of Vice Chancellor and Teaching and Learning awards


Al has completed Certificate 2 in Auslan and works with members of the d/Deaf community. Over the course of his career, Al has actively guided and supported the learning of Autistic people, people with Downs Syndrome, people with Intellectual Disability, people with Developmental Language Disorder, people with learning disability and people with a diversity of learning styles, abilities and preferences, as well as people experiencing mental health challenges. 


Al is committed to working respectfully with people of all communities, backgrounds and lived experiences.
