Addressing Queensland Kindy Uplift Priority Areas

Social & Emotional Competence, Executive Functions, Oral Language & Literacy and Culturally Safe, Inclusive & Responsive, CommunARTy's Professional Support Services offer high-quality, evidence-based learning opportunities for Kindergarten teachers, Educators and children.

"Our whole team really benefited. Anyone working in the room when Al was there picked up so many new ways of working with children and the arts.

It was a really good way to get extended conversations going with children.

We all benefited - children, staff and families."

Aligned with the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline, sessions demonstrate intentional teaching, planning and professional conversation and reflection to strengthen educators' knowledge and skills.

"Our teacher's confidence really lifted. She was inspired each week to try new things in the 'off' Program week when Al didn't come. I know she really loved the professional conversation at the end each time. The children loved all of the experiences - they were all so different and interesting.

Everything was good."

Program Structure

Prior to our first Session

We will invite you to share with us some background information about your Centre, its location and the types of art experiences you offer young children.

This will allow us to tailor your Teaching & Learning sessions to you.

During our Sessions

Together we will engage in a series of Sessions.

With the active participation of your Early Childhood Teacher and Educators, we will model quality creative practices and arts learning experiences with young children.

Each teaching and learning session will richly and authentically embed Kindy Uplift Priority Areas of focus to your Centre.

Throughout these practical sessions, you and the children will engage with us in rich arts inquiries.

Through these inquiries, together we will practise:

  • Interactions with engaging stimuli and arts texts,
  • Learning about ourselves, each other and our worlds,
  • Creative practices for inclusive engagement,
  • Making meaning and developing connections,
  • Intentional teaching of arts skills and knowledges,
  • Mutually guided discovery,
  • Exploring understandings through and about art and creative practices,
  • Active verbal and non-verbal communications,
  • Continuity of learning,
  • Group reflection, and
  • Respectful sharing.

"Al's art pedagogy knowledge was amazing. I really learnt a lot from observing his teaching. I loved that it was an ongoing program where the children and the staff got to build a relationship with Al. The week on/off really pushed me to try things on my own and embed new learning. I have never done art appreciation with children before and I couldn't believe how this work got them talking about things that seemed really high level."

"I believe the whole program was really successful. The children were very engaged each week and eager to know when Al would return for the next instalment. I feel the follow-up document that Al supplied helped me in my documentation process as it provided all of the necessary links to learning areas and skill sets across each of the art experiences."

Following our Sessions

Together we will critically reflect on the Session in a professional conversation; unpacking the objectives and outcomes, the pedagogies demonstrated, observations made and potential future applications. Responding to the Session, and inspired by children's changing interests and current events, together we will begin planning for our next Session.

"The critical reflection afterwards was great because doing this with another qualified teacher made it really strong and effective."

"This program was very flexible and being able to make suggestions and changes was a great way for us to ensure we got the most out of the program. The critical reflective sessions were very helpful in guiding any changes and planning for future sessions."

Teacher testimonial

"The critical reflective conversation provided a chance to discuss the capabilities of the children and how to differentiate for any extra needs within the group going forward. I really enjoyed having Al to collaborate with as we worked out the themes and plans for the future art experiences and made sure these were reflecting the children's interests within the class group."

Teacher testimonial

"Thank you SO MUCH for this opportunity. We (the educators and children) have beyond loved our experience with CommunARTy and would be very happy for Al to return and run another program in our space."

Teacher testimonial

"It was a great experience, and I would recommend it to any teacher

in the early years."
